At Nairobi’s David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage, caretakers sleep beside the residents to keep them company. The caretakers spend each night with a different elephant, to prevent the orphans from becoming too attached.

8. Rita Turner: If baby elephants need to be covered with a blanket, how do they stay warm in the wild? And like a baby, do the keepers sleep in the stalls so the elephants don’t feel scared or alone? Is it worst to pair up elephants in a stall? Or do the keepers need to bond in order to maintain some control? The elephants grow to trust the green jackets. I hope the elephants can distinguish between them and humans that try to hurt them. I pray the poachers never try to mirror their wardrobe.

10. Katherine Uribe: Poor baby ellies...they can't sleep alone when they're so young. It's important that the keeper is there with them. They get very anxious if left alone in the night. Just like human babies, they need comforting, to feel safe and protected. This video touches my heart. God bless the keepers for their work, love and dedication to these young elephants.
