Kisatchie National Forest is over 640,000 acres of public land and home to many rare plant and animal species. Besides protecting the flora and fauna, it also plays a crucial role in preserving the landscape of northern Louisiana, such as the naturally occurring prairie land that elsewhere has been converted for agricultural use.
There are over 100 miles of mixed-use trails spread among Kisatchie's 40 developed recreational areas, offering up a big variety of activities for visitors. You can expect adventures in hiking, biking, fishing, horseback riding, camping, and more. If history is your thing, Kisatchie National Forest’s Heritage program protects archaeological sites and historical structures in the forest.
