NEW Fortnite Backpacks are Leaked in the game files. These include a new 'Medic Pack' which you can use to help revive teammates, and an 'Intel Pack' which functions somewhat like the Eye of the Storm Tracker that was mistakenly released a few days ago and quickly removed.
The Intel Pack not only finds the eye of the storm, it also tracks nearby goodies like loot as well as nearby enemies.
The Medic Pack's description reads “Carry your allies to victory with this advanced life saving equipment!”
These backpacks promise to change the way the game is played---for better or worse. I've had fun with the jetpack, but I'm also glad it's a limited time item rather than a permanent in-game fixture. The old idiom 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' seems to apply here.
While change is necessary and Epic certainly needs to keep the content pipeline flowing, there's always a risk in upending the formula and tipping the delicate balance that keeps everything chugging along just so.
Other backpacks in the leak (via @FNBRLeaks) include:
BoostJumpPack (the jetpack we already have)
CarminePack
Glider
GliderPack
MissileBattery
TestPack
There's no information in the files on most of these other than the jetpack and the two listed at the top of this post.
I'm not sure what to make of all these new backpacks, but I do find it more than a little strange to introduce an item that essentially replaces one of the major cosmetics in the game. Back Bling is one of just a few cosmetic categories in Fortnite, but when you don a jetpack (or any other backpack) the Bling disappears.
If these are all temporary items, I don't think we have much to worry about in terms of game balance. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
