Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called the collapse of the Soviet Union the "greatest catastrophe of the 20th century," but Moscow currently is making a strong comeback. Dr. George Friedman discusses how powerful Russia will become in the next 10 years in a series of conversations about his new book, "The Next Decade."

- nottyexec: the russian are more clever now,, more mature,, not like the us .. still clinging to old tactics ,,, disinformation etc,,, war,, to control the world,, so disgusting
- Count Rufus: kingofprussia17 wrong.Germamg was using entire europe industrial production for its own means.
as for scientists. both usa and russia rook some german jet ans rocket ingeneruing.at that time germany was leading in science because of its central position in europe.Germany often takes from other europeans.
German army was facing annihilation in the east.Bagration was the worst deafeat in its history. An russians did it whit not much superior nummber.
Battle of Moscow russians had less soldiers but its highly trained units for winterwarfare.
look at the british soldiers...they were the worst along whit italians.
- kowalityjesus: I think this man is unrealistically non-chalant about war between powers.
- Richard Burton: What a retard :D
- TheREALMcChimp: You know, Russia's been a modern country since the early 20th century... also, western Europe is perfectly capable of defending itself-it just isn't quite as obsessed with it as the US is.
- schmoukiz: Putin is a pathetic dwarf that tries so hard to emulate Stalin. To quote someone he also admired: "History repeats itself: the first time it's tragedy, the second time it's a farce" (K. Marx)
- Peter martin: Putin said the fall of the USSR was 'a GREAT geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century'. US propaganda lies.
- SkullKing11841: @Mojo1982 No the war on terror didn't give them time, they were always going to have time.
- Austin Carroll: The Soviet Union's citizens were poor, not the nation itself although even still it's GNP was much lower than that of the United States.
- Dmitry Volkov: +Remigius Polański, funny joke, little kurwa. At the head of the Soviet Union was very often the non-Russian leaders. 40% of the entire Communist party consisted of non-Russians. So, what about slaves are you talking, moron?
It was a common state. It's not fucking Commonwealth, where the Poles had all the power.
- Michael Weston: I would love to see a resurgence of Russia and all the 12 splitting nations to a family reunion
- annefrankwasparanoid: If America would nationalize oil we could kick out the villainous Federal Reserve and the British Empire.
- Pablo Aguila: +dzulsoviet You are just agreeing with him. Food was always scarce and internal market never really developed. Powerful, but poor. Soviet civil products lacked quality and were, in a great percentage, behind USA, Japan and Germany's quality, especially when computers came along.
- 420Patriot1776: Crazy how the media ripped Trump a new asshole when he said NATO was obsolete because no other states paid their fair share.
Yet George, a geopolitical expert, said this 3 years earlier and nobody batted an eye.
- Alejandro HP: SHALOM! I like the way he pronounces MOSCOW at 1:32
- Remigius Polański: Becouse for Russians enslaved pepole breaking free is an catastrophe . No wonder none of theire neighbours like's them lol
- Pablo Aguila: +dzulsoviet You are just agreeing with him. Food was always scarce and internal market never really developed. Powerful, but poor. Soviet civil products lacked quality and were, in a great percentage, behind USA, Japan and Germany's quality, especially when computers came along.
- Kristjen Štjuprić: Serbia and Russia FOREVER!!!
- dzulsoviet: hey what you say Russia was poor but powerful before fall of soviet union??? So how a poor country can afford to send space mission? Build railways military with thousands of vehicles and weapons?? HEY u friedman you must remember as comparison to USA Soviet army have about 65000 tanks and APCs compared to USA of just 12000. you can check that info out its the official info from pre 1991.
- cathbad2468: France isn't obsessed with their own security? Do you know why they pulled out of NATO command, developed their own nuclear weapons and weapons industry? Do you know why (at least until the mid 90s) conscription was mandatory for French men? They did all this to be 100% certain that their security wasn't left in someone else's hands. They weren't going to get left high and dry again like in 1940. I wouldn't dismiss it as mere 'obsession', just sensible vigilance.
- Mikha2: fun. I think, i just heard George arguing about Russia as as a mere regional power just a 3.5 years ago.
- Vasilj Milidrag: @fashionvictim50 wow, over Libya. Ah NATO is so powerful. They should now attack Iran or China.
- roarodon: Dinosaur as not extremely old and useless, but as extremely strong massive and destructive.
- kingofprussia17: You bought most of your shit form the US during WW2, which you would've lost if we didn't supply your shitty soldiers. Then stole German scientist's for your space mission's.
- MichaelDvinyaninov: All what Russia did, is doing and will do is not to nuke the world or America. The most of Russian politics now is about Ukraine. Putin means that the collapse of USSR was catastrophe not in political meaning as everybody thinks, but in social meaning - the people (already mixed up between each other during Russian Empire and Soviet Union) and economy of common country was divided and the people of those new countries suffered. NOT to nuke the world.
- Hannah Stonem: NATO a dinosaur? Well NATOsaurus just trampled all over Libya foraging for oil and defeated Gaddafisaurus Rex.
- Enigma Seeker: I recomend you watch this doc called "Zeitgeist Moving Forward" look it up. We need to provent a 2nd World War Era with NATO vs SCO.
- normalais: FUCK RUSSIA. FREEDOM TO BALTICS
- nottyexec: the us dont give a damm what happen to other people or nation,, the important things is,, they do wnat they want,,,, like the world is thiers alone,, go suck balls,,, if u guys got balls
- siberianblade1: I disagree with you, because NATO was not the result of a cultural process but it was created in order to contain the USSR. So, nowadays the NATO has no "leimotiv" to exist. Seriously, do you think that the USA is going to allow the entrance of Rusia as a equal partner? Of course not. This is geopolitics, which is beyond and more complex. You talk of success in the Baltics, isn't it that Russia is a member of BRICS?
- SkullKing11841: @Mojo1982 Can you explain how it gave Russia and China time to rebuild.
